| Pam
Finkel received a BFA in printmaking from Albion College in
1980 and has lived and painted on Mackinac Island since 1981.
She currently resides with her husband and two children at
Woodbluff on the island. Pam also teaches drawing and painting
at the Mackinac Island Public School.
"For
me the island is a place charged with intense color and energy
in which I immerse myself while painting. Juxtaposition of
colors is the most important and powerful element of my work
allowing me to tap the subconscious and evoke emotions. I
love playing with color, creating scenes to suggest a surreal
silence or parallel universe where the world vibrates at a
higher level. There is a balance and symmetry here between
man-made and natural forms, the architecture and trees complementing
and echoing one another. Mackinac Island is profoundly beautiful
and inspiring and I am thankful every day for the privilege
of living and working here."
