Marta Olson has enjoyed photography since she was a young
child, but in more recent years expanded her creative expression
to painting.
In
Marta’s own words, “Painting is a way for me to
express my love of the natural world. Trying to capture the
spirituality and seasons of the north is a delightful process
for me. The light here is always changing and it is a wonderful
challenge to teach myself to see its effect on the water,
sky, and trees.”
Watercolor
and oil are her favorite media. Although she develops her
skills with occasional workshops, she is primarily self-taught
and loves the process of experimenting on her own with new
techniques and approaches. She enjoys studying the works of
the masters, as well as contemporary painters, for fresh inspiration
for her art.
She
has received honors in Michigan juried shows in Hillsdale
and Petoskey. Her paintings can be found at Victorian Summer
on Main St., Mackinac Island, Michigan and at QUARTERS,
114 Main St., Harbor Springs, Michigan.
Marta's
paintings and her photography may be viewed through her web
site at www.mackinac.com/art/olson.
She is a member of the Mackinac
Seven Art Group which exhibits in three annual shows on
the island.
