| Rick
Kolb presents us this year with new paintings that are rich
in both color and content. It is the richness of color that
draws our eyes to Kolb's work, and then it is the contours,
the forms, and the depth that hold us.
One looks forward to seeing what Rick paints next because
one never knows what it could be. Rick is inspired by his
surroundings. He incorporates subjects from real-life and
from his mind. His subject matter ranges widely from still
life, animals, abstracts, landscapes, architecture to figures.
Rick constructs his own view of nature and his surroundings.
He uses space and light to combine reality with his analysis
of the subject matter. He invites you to study his pictures.

His
work requires one to use concentrated involvement, intuition
and, above all, an open eye for detail. Rick is a strong designer.
Not only is his use of line and space strong, but his bold
use of color ties it all together. Rick often uses complementary
colors because they vibrate next to his use of bold dark lines.
Rick's paintings are a complete composition of style that
opens one's eyes to his world of color and content.
Rick Kolb's
work can be see at The Gildner Gallery (Art Above the Coop),
216 S. Main, Cheboygan, QUARTERS,
114 Main St., Harbor Springs, or at the Crooked
Tree Arts Center in Petoskey, Michigan.
