| I
am fortunate to have had the influence and support of devoted
parents. My father taught me proper tool use and introduced
me to many materials and crafts. As a Civil Engineer, he excelled
in problem-solving from which I benefited immensely. I discovered
books at age nine and thus avoided the scourge of television.
I
attended High School at Westtown Friends School and matriculated
in Arts and Sciences at the University of Vermont after studying
Chemistry and Comparative Religion. During summers at Mount
Sinai Hospital doing research in Neurochemistry I was introduced
to scientific glassblowing with borosilicate glass and Quartz.
I hitch-hiked in South America before returning to studies
in Medicine at the University of Vermont, receiving my M.D.
in 1980. I practiced Emergency Medicine for 15 years.

My
creative voice kept asking for my attention during these years
of practice through blown glass, copper sculpture, and furniture
design. I made my departure from medicine two years after
building my studio in 1995. With the collaboration and patient
tutorials of Rich Arentzen we developed a line of off-hand
blown glass that is our studio's foundation.
I
have had the opportunity to study at Haystack Mountain School
of Crafts and the Corning Studio with Fritz Dreisbach, Jan
Erik-Ritzman, David Levi, and Josiah McIlhenny.
On
my creative horizon is the design of one of a kind blown and
mosaic glass, as well as furniture and lighting design.
